The Tribulation

"Seek the Lord, all you, the humble of the earth,
who obey his commands. Seek integrity, seek humility:
you may perhaps find shelter on the day of the anger of the Lord."
(Zeph. 2:3)

"And after the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one will be cut off and...will not be for him the city and the sanctuary will be destroyed by a prince who will come. His end will come in catastrophe and, until the end, there will be war and all the devastation decreed."(Dan. 9:26)

The wrath is the time of tribulation warned about in scripture.

There can be little doubt that it is here now that it has already started. To see that we have only to look to the extraordinary global calamities that have wracked the world since the beginning of the 20th century. Who could ponder that uninterrupted cascade of disasters which began even before the century appeared and have tumbled unabated into this century as well with increasing fury, and not see global wrath?

Into that space are crammed two world wars, almost every city in the Europe and Asia bombed to rubble and burned to the ground, the massacres of repeated genocides, more than a hundren million people killed, 500 million more maimed and injured radiation and poison gas; horrors far worse than anything ever seen before on earth by man.

During this same period, every nation in the western world has rejected Jesus and His Gospel. They have cast Christ out of all their governments. In that rejection, the mortal wound Jesus delivered to Babylon has healed.

Absolute proof of that healing was made manifest when atheism as a major system of world government returned from its 2000-year hiatus, suddenly blanketing Russia, China and all their satellites a third of the world practically overnight.  Atheism had been held back by the Church. Governmental atheism was not allowed to exist on earth during the reign of Christ. It had been forbidden for almost1600 years.

On top of that return, the fourth kingdom of Persia, described by Daniel in his visions of the End (Dan.11:2), is now rising to power as we watch. Western troops have been sent to the Euphrates to block it in fulfillment of the prophecies (Jer. 46:1-10).

Mindless of the dark and towering waves approaching our shores, the government of the United States has expelled God from any participation in the governance of its people. The schools are forbidden even to mention His name. His words ridiculed, the name of His Son is becoming anathama to an entire global population.

None of the cataclysms of the 20th century have turned the people to God. And that is why they continue. Despite a ceaseless staccato of disasters, most have ignored it all and gone on in the same way as before, more stubborn than ever in their rejection of Him. No nation is listening anymore to the Lord. Instead, they ridicule the idea of a Creator in creation, and increasingly see God as a Bronze Age bias that needs expelling.

That vision, verbally expressed is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Scripture is very clear about what it brings.

"God will arm creation to punish his enemies; he will put on justice as a breastplate...he will forge a biting sword of his stern wrath, and the universe will march with him to fight the reckless. Bolts truly aimed, the shafts of lightning will leap, and from the clouds, as from a full-drawn bow, fly to their mark; and the catapult will hurl hailstones charged with fury. The waters of the sea will rage against them, the rivers engulf them without pity. The breath of God will blow against them and winnow them like a hurricane. So lawlessness will bring the whole earth to ruin and evil-doing bring the thrones of the mighty down." (Wis.5:17-24).

Now in the dark clouds of a recession so cavernous it may cut deeper than any depression the country has ever seen, a wrenching poverty has suddenly covered America like a blanket. Unemployment is surging around the world, threatening global stability. The banks are failing, finances are bankrupt, Wall Street has collapsed in shame and businesses are failing in thunderous crashes everywhere as the politicians play games some so aloof they remain unaware of the dire situation that faces their constituents. A growing number of economists expect a return of normalcy to be decades away.

What has suddenly encompassed us is not a passing event. It is nothing like the past. Everything has changed. The 20th century was not an aberration. The Wrath is a rising tide of catastrophe, punishing not all at once, but in inceasingly bitter stages so those inclined might still recognize the truth and repent. It is not God's wish that any person perish. He came to save everyone everyone possessing the courage to listen to Him.

Listening to Jesus taking His words to heart that is the light at the end of this tunnel. In God, rescue is certain!  All His promises still hold true.  Tough times will not change that.

The prophecies, if they apply to now, show that America' will be brought low its influence across the world, shattered. The country is not to be destroyed, but put on the sidelines for a time so the terrible heartland of the Wrath can take its place on history's main stage. The country's humbling seems to be in progress right now.

America, using its global power, money, influence, weaponry and everything that it stands for would stop the wrath from occurring if it had power to do so.

The fact that this great tribulation happens at all despite America's physical presence in the world is proof that Daniel's prophecy of its humbling will come true. God will do it on purpose because His day of anger has arrived (Is.24). The western world is to be scattered to the four winds according to his prophecies (Dan.11:4). The democracy America championed will take other forms unknown to the fathers who rebirthed it from its Greek roots in 1776 when our country was founded.

We know that America will not disappear in the collapse Daniel envisions because America is the source of the "ships of Kittim", the huge far-western force that prophecy teaches will block the Madman at the very end, after the core of the Wrath has run its course across the world. This means America will survive much of the Wrath and emerge in the very last days strong and powerful, but no longer the leader of the world.

Those who argue that the beast will rule the whole world, and think this applies to the Madman, have misread Revelation's text. It is the dragon (Satan) who, in his return from the Abyss, ends up ruling the whole world (Rev.11:7; 17:1-6, etc.).. The Madman of the end, according to Daniel, never does (Dan.11:30; 11:42-44, etc.). The Book of Revelation uses the term "beast" for both. But they are different entities. The first is a spiritual influence, while the Madman is a man.

Satan, who is often called the dragon or the beast, is a spiritual entity, and it is he who will rule the whole world at the end. Already, he has taken control of all the world's governments. Governmentally, he rules the world now. We don't have to look into the future for this. He completed that takeover by convincing the last holdout, the American civic leaders, to evict God and Jesus from the American government, ending a compromise that had been in place in the United States from 1776 until 1963.

The shattering of that compromise could be seen in tens of thousands of toppled crosses and commandment monuments from coast to coast. Prayers were abolished, Bible verses expunged, books burned and a whole new way of educational instruction instituted. The word "God" became a forbidden term. The idea of a Creator became the subject of major lawsuits. The word "Creationist" has become an epithet.

We can think of the 1963 decision in this way, that it marked a key moment in the 42-month age of pagans on earth (Rev.13:2-10). Not only was Satan out of the Abyss, he had regained full governmental control of all the nations.

The decision to evict God from the school system in America insured that Christian faith, still strong among the people, will evaporate here as it has overseas. Slowly it will fade away. Especially pinned as it now is, against the backdrop of hatred for God most secular educators currently embrace. Most see it their duty to expunge Christian ideas from Darwinian society.

Satan's toppling of the American government completed his civic control of all the world's continents both hemispheres. In his victory over the nations, Satan has fractured the foundation of the Treaty of Milan that made Christianity the supreme religion of the world, a treaty whose effects had remained intact (though troubled) from 320 A.D., until the beginning of the 20th century.

The Bible uses the words "Babylon and the Chaldeans" metaphorically to designate the government and people on earth opposed to Christ, and into whose hands the people of God have been placed by Satan. It stood for Rome into whose hands the House of Israel was placed by God just after 70 A.D. (only 40 years after Jesus had been crucified). And it stands now for the entire civic world that opposes, or has abandoned Him. This world is Satan's domain. God has sent Jesus Christ into it to search for His captive people and lead them out to safety before Babylon meets its violent end.

"Escape out of Babylon, from the country of the Chaldaeans. Go!  Act like the he-goats, be leaders of the flock. See, I am raising a league of mighty nations against Babylon....Escape from the destroying sword, let everyone return to his own people, let everyone escape to his own country! (Jer.50:8-9; 16)

That violent end is not far away (Jer. 51:58).

Satan had been this world's ruler since Adam and Eve. In order for God to rescue His people, He first had to put Satan in chains. God had Michael lock him in the Abyss (Rev. 20:1-2) to give time for the churchmen to search for God's captive children and set them on the path of Christ so that they could be rescued and escape the coming calamity that would otherwise have killed them eternally.

History has shown a search that has been going on since the first Pentecost, a period of almost 2000 years. In prophecy's 'God-time' this search has lasted almost 2 days (Joshua 10:13-14). The time given to the churchmen marks the reign on earth of Jesus, especially the period from the edict of Milan which freed the Christians from the catacombs, to the final days of the Great Revolt spoken of by Paul in 2nd Thessalonians (2 Thes. 2:3). It is that latter time we are in now, the terminal moments of the Great Revolt when, according to prophecy, first the rulers, and then the people of the world reject the Christ they had so long embraced.

How close are we to this relgious disaster? Joshua's prophecy tells us the reign of God's "Sonlight" (God's "Day of Atonement") will last "almost two days". That prophecy overlays our time so perfectly right now that it seems the moment is imminent that it could happen at any second.

That doesn't mean the end of the world. It means darkness. The Day of God's offer ends in rejection (Dn.11:31-35). The "Son" goes down (Dn 9:26-27). The preaching of Christ's Gospel is stopped by the hand of the people. It is replaced by the Wrath, the anger of God. We find ourselves right now at the moment of that tribulation.

Only in the United States is the faith of the common people still strong. Eighty-seven percent of Americans claim to be Christians. Around the rest of the world in most countries, faith in the promise of Jesus is vaporizing. The nations have abandoned Him and now the people are falling away, too. It may not be clear yet on our shores, but the "Son" is setting throughout the world.

This is far different from the beginning, when faith in Jesus was so high, it sparked a revolution of belief across the earth. Christ's reign on earth coincided with Satan's incarceration in the Abyss. It's demise, according to scripture, coincides with Satan's release. The return reign of Satan refers to Rev. 20:7-10, when Satan is freed from his prison in the Abyss and is allowed to briefly return to earth to spark a counter-revolution against God and so bring the world to its prophesied end.

The angel explained to John in Rev.17:7-11 that both Babylon and the multiple horns of the Madman that ultimately destroy her are servants of the same Beast (Satan). This is why the two are often confused in prophecy. Satan is the puppeteer, while Babylon and the Madman are his puppets. They end up fighting each other like 'Punch' and 'Judy', but in this case, to the death.

This shows there is a significant difference between Babylon and the beast of the end the Madman. The Madman and the ten horns who support him will destroy Babylon and burn her to the ground (Rev.17:15-18). This, despite the fact that they both work for the same boss (they both work for Satan). This day of burning references global nuclear war, when Satan is fatally brought against himself. When that fiery encounter happens, the Return of Christ wll be imminent perhaps only weeks away.

This cannot happen until the ten horns have arisen in the East, and their identities and military alliances made clearly known. It cannot happen until the East has armored itself in a vast stockpile of nuclear weapons; especially Persia. At this date Persia has no nuclear weapons at all, let alone a large stockpile. It cannot happen until Israel has been overrun by the armies of the north, the invasion across the Euphrates of Gog and Magog. The Wrath is the period in which all these things will be brought to pass. Only then (after all these other events have taken place) will the fiery end occur.

This may take decades. But not luxurious decades.

The Wrath that precedes this day of burning will usher in the age of Babylon's return to atheism. It is this dark period of tyranny and poverty that confronts us now an age we have already entered. Included in it, coming full bore at the very end of it, will be the world's attack on the Church the time when God's two witnesses, Peter and Paul, will be "killed" (cutoff i.e., their preaching stopped). The Bible and its message will be forbidden. Instead of the light of Christ, darkness will cover most of the earth.

In America, the islands of the sea, the preaching of Christ should continue, though even here it will be muted by an overwhelmingly secular populace, whose deaf ears will further deafen. Isaiah wrote of this time:

"They lift up their voices, singing for joy; they acclaim the majesty of God from the sea. Therefore in the islands they give glory to the Lord, in the islands of the sea, to the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. From remotest earth we hear songs, 'Honor to the upright one'. But 'Enough, enough!' I say. 'Woe to the traitors who betray, to the traitors who treacherously betray!' Terror, the pit, the snare for you, inhabitants of the earth..." (Is.24:10-17).

The Christian nature of America in these times (our 87% rating) is verified in Isaiah's prophecy. He shows it will be thus when God pulls the plug. It is becoming increasingly apparent He already has.

The cause of all these things is a world that has turned its back on God and evicted Him from any decision making concerning its future. These rulings against God are momentous decisions because they have left the world unprotected from the ravages of a Wrath that now confronts it, center stage.

That center stage is Israel. A key element in the tribulation will be the invasion and near-conquest of the Jewish state by the forces of the East. From now until the End, Israel will remain the focus of the world.
